HEY DUDES AND BABES,

It's gonna be the end of the year 2009 and we should all get together to do some catching up. We don't have the luxury of meeting each other every week, thus i will try to put it on a date when almost everyone can make it, instead of meeting up in fragmented groups on separate days.

Last weekend of nov? First weekend of dec?

Suggestion 1: Hiking, ending off with a BBQ at a park/ potluck at someone's house or a picnic.

Suggestion 2: Book a chalet : night cycling, mahjong, wii, volleyball, soccer.

Suggestion 3 (tough one) : A trip to Langkawi for a beach holiday, or to hongkong/bangkok for a shopping trip ( It's a plan we've been talking about for months)

Note: Suggestion 2 and 3 will be expensive now because it's quite last minute and it's the holiday season. If there are enough interested parties, it can be done at a cheaper rate in 2010. Better to settle it earlier now with your responses.

I NEED VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH THE EVENTS PLEASE, preferably those orded personnel! OPINIONS OPINIONS? you could volunteer others if you know they're capable and intelligent.

For the guys, tell me if you've confinement, weekend exercises or you're just being plain lazy!
I know the girls are having exams this period of time, but if you could free yourself for a day or two for some relaxation, i'll do my best to make it a fruitful outing.

Young In The Yellow City (Fiction, Episode 2)

The Queen was wearing stilettos as usual. Today she wore her brown heels with a fabric upper in a floral print of red, brown and teal over a white background. To match those heels, the Queen chose to don a white floral lace dress, bearing the flesh on her wrinkled and spotted arms. Her lip was dark red, and she wore a pair of big, matching dark red ear studs. Her hair is short, wavy and neat. Her crow's feet are obvious, but she only puts on light make-up, showing no intention of concealing her age. Perhaps that's her true rationale, to make her seniority known to the students, to induce respect and fear in her students. The white Prada bag that she carried completes her graceful appearance, but Ignatius ought to know better. She's like Miranda Priestly, the Devil who wears Prada, although Ignatius was not quite sure if that white lace dress she is wearing now is Prada.

The Queen is Mrs. Rose Ang. She is Ignatius' GP tutor.

And Ignatius has forgotten about the essay that is supposed to be due today. Three questions, one on environmental protection, one on the influence of mass media, and another one on euthanasia. Suddenly euthansia seemed like the only option for Ignatius to take. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, but a woman scorned hath no fury like Mrs Ang knowing that you have forgotten to do your homework.

After the daily routine of flag-raising ceremony, Ignatius checked his timetable for the day. Great, the first period at 8 A.M. is Chem lab. Perhaps I could find some cyanide to use, Ignatius thought. He felt queasy, the kind of queasiness one would get when they know that doom is looming.

After spending two hours in the poorly-lit, underventilated and depressing-looking laboratory, Ignatius gets an one-hour break. He mentally add a new item to his to-do list.

Chem lab was dull, especially the person whom Ignatius is sitting next to is Eva Fan. Boring, average Jane from China. her hair is thick and wavy, which reminds Ignatius of Goldilocks, another PRC girl from SCGS. The only difference is that Eva ties the waves on her head in the most humbling way using the most boring hair band one can ever find, while Goldilocks is proud to display her waves in the most exagerrated manner one can imagine. Either she's oblivious to all that snickering behind her, which would indicate a dumb blonde personality, or she just happen to have a bad hair day, every day. Or maybe she's the spokeperson for fashion (not!) wigs.

Ignatius and Eva set up the experiment together. There was no much chemistry between them. They quickly allocated the tasks between themselves and set off to work. They obtained results, recorded their observations, and discussed briefly on how to describe the observation seen when they heat unknown, white, powdery compound Q "until no further change is observed." Miss Grace Chua, the Chem tutor went through the experiment with them. Bell rings. Lesson's over. Ignatius heads back to the class bench.

"Lend me your essay."

"You never do, huh? Haha!" Lim Yan Yun teased. "Yeah, I didn't. I totally forgot about it. Did you do yours? How long is your essay?"

Ignatius' heart sank when he saw that Yan Yun wrote on euthanasia. He knew absolutely nothing about euthanasia. Plus, euthanasia is such a sensitive issue to be tackled in GP, too many grey-areas, too argumentative. He's only good at regurgitating facts, so he needs a sample essay on environmental protection.

"Xin Wei, which essay question did you choose?"

"I wrote on the environemtal protection thinggy." Ignatius' heart lit up with hope again. "Lend me! Puh-leeeeez! I am desperate!"

"Okay.. but don't copy blindly," warned Xin Wei, who cautiously handed over her essay to Ignatius.

Ignatius grinned. He knew exactly what she meant, and knew exactly what to do. He will not plagiarise, and he knows how sensitive the Queen is to plagiarism. She can detect the slightest plagiarism in her students'essay, effectively knowing whether or not her students have been copying each other's work. What he needs to do now is to read through Xin Wei's essay, pick out her arguments, paraphrase them and substitute the examples and case studies with those he had memorised by heart. Wind energy in the Netherlands. Solar energy in Germany. Tidal energy in Southern France. Stupid Xin Wei, Ignatius thought, All she can give is the Kyoto Protocol.

Ignatius' Nokia vibrated. One new message is received.

"ECACO formals at 330. A306." It was from Lucy Liu, the secretary for ECACO, which is the committee that Ignatius is in.

Yet another meeting. Ignatius took a deep breath and decided that he need a break from the homework-copying. Potato wedges from "Asian Fusion" and a small pack of Marigold's mixed fruit and vegetable juice. Bell rings. Ignatius, now with one less worry off his mind, dragged himself to the classroom where the Queen awaits. He made sure that when he enters the classroom he must appear non-chalant, and kept psychoing himself that he has completed the essay -- by himself, so that he would radiate this aura of self-confidence. The Queen is very sharp. She can detect the slightest form of flusteration in her students, so he must really cover his emotions well.

There was no else at the class bench when Ignatius Heng arrived. After all, it was only 6:52 A.M. on his LG Chocolate. Ignatius was never fond of watches. Who needs watches when there is a clock on your mobile?

Ignatius threw his white New Urban Male bag onto the wooden table. A random piece of flyer got blown away from the table-top. There were still more pieces of paper strewn on this brown antique. A pamphlet on Wednesday's Ice-cream day organised by the netball team (to raise funds for some third-world country), exercise worksheets based on the TIME magazine (which was issued more than three weeks ago) that the school had subscribed for them, a detached piece of tutorial on Complex Numbers (which Ignatius didn't bother to attempt, or submit to Mrs. Gwee for marking) that looked like Christina Seow's work, a set of H2 Economics notes on International Trade which had a suspicious-looking size-10 footprint on it. The flat and cheap-looking cardboard box on the table was initially inaugurated to store such papers neatly. However, whenever the box got filled to its brim, people started using it as a paper-weight; pretty soon, it is used as a paper-weight regardless how much of it is filled with papers. Nowadays, the bulk of mass of this "paperweight" comes from the dog-eared "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown, which still has the iconic sticker that reads "College Library" on its spine.

Ignatius sat on the rickety class bench and the wooden structure shifted its equilibrium to the side away from where he was sitting. Immediately Ignatius was reminded of the Le Chatelier's Principle. The next second, he shook that disgusting thought off his head, half-bewildered and half-cocky by this display of ingenuity.

He took out his tutorial on Circular Motion in attempt to attempt the questions. He gave up after three glances at the question paper; in between those glances were distractions of people-watching. The first distraction was Tammy Chen. She has reached school. She sashayed as she made her way to her class bench located on the other wing of the horseshoe-shaped building. He was captivated by the curves on her body. She isn't exactly what you would call voluptuous, but her curves are... perfect. Like perfect symmetry of each other. Like the sine curve. And it's not just any sine curve. It's your standard "y = sin x" curve, with an amplitude of 1 unit. Nothing too humongous, nothing too negligible. Anything bigger would be like Fong Wei Ling, like "y = 435281 sin x"; anything smaller would be like Aileen Tan, like "y = 0 sin x".

The second distraction was the arrival of Lam Dao Tang. He's just simply too big to miss. At more than 130 kilograms, one might assume that he's the star judoka of the school's judo team, but alas, he blows the flute in the Chinese Orchestra. What a pity, Ignatius thought, each time he sees Dao Tang. He could probably be the only JC student who can give that Indian RJC female judoka the same size as him a body slam. Ignatius was reminded of the scene in the finals of the 'A'-Division Inter-School Judo Championship last year, where the College's best (probably because she was the heaviest in the team) female judoka, got her ass whipped so badly by that ridiculously over-sized Indian judoka. It was like seeing Oprah Winfrey trying to wrestle that girl who lip-synched in the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. It was literally David versus Goliath. Unfair. Mis-match.

But that was almost 6 months ago, and Ignatius is relieved that now is not the competition season for the sports CCA. Two seasons a year, lasting between two to three months each season, Ignatius and his fellow councillors have to attend these sporting events to cheer for the athletes. Ignatius love to watch those matches, but he hates cheering. Or rather, he hates to lead the student population in cheering. The College students never cheer during a match. They only do so when the team has won the match, which is frustrating because on one hand you need to get the supporters to cheer so as to motivate the athletes, and on the other hand, when the supporters refuse to provide such moral support, the athletes conveniently blame the Students' Council for not doing their job.

On that note, Ignatius decided not to buy ice-cream from the netball team this Wednesday.

It's now 7:02 A.M. The 7 o'clock 151, 156, 174 and 961 buses have arrived. Following closely are the 7:01 74, 171 and 852. Students began to stream in and fill up the empty seats on the class benches. Their dull brown uniform, which is a complete fashion disaster, makes their infiltration into the void decks look like a giant Milo spillage.

Lionel Tay has arrvied, with his signature Deuter bag packed to its maximum capacity with every single sheet of notes and tutorials since last year and the usual can of chilled Nescafé on his right hand. Marcus Li was beside him, probably talking about Bleach with Lionel. Both of them sat down on the class bench, opposite Ignatius. Both of them took out their Circular Motion tutorial. Both of them saw Ignatius' blank foolscap paper and question paper. Both of them put the tutorial back into their own folder.

Clack, clack clack. Oh shoot! The familiar clacking of stilettos brought about a gush of warm blood up my spine and into the blood vessels of my brain. A sense of deja vú, followed by random bits and pieces of Friday's conversation with Lau Xin Wei and Alicia Ng, then everything became clearer and made sense.

Oh! Shit!

So guys, here’s the plan. We are having the Christmas party on the 28th
As usual, it will be potluck plus gift exchange. You guys have an early lunch then come by my house around 2 plus 3 and we’ll have dinner at around 5pm so that the party can end early for the guys to book in back to camp on time.

So here’s what everyone needs to do from now til the day:
1. Start thinking of how to prepare a delightful dish for the class
2. Go out and get a fanciful gift and pray hard it will land into the hands of the correct guy/gal
3. Look through your wardrobe again and start trying out clothes in front of the mirror (only applicable for gals, jiawei n terence heng)
4. Fantasize about how look gooding everyone’s gonna be
5. Don’t sleep late and turn up for the event punctually.

its been a long time since most of us last met so marcus, yuekai and i were thinking of having a class gathering cum farewell party for lanfang and yanyin since both of them will be flying to the faraway lands of china and canada soon! it will most probably be on sat since the guys will be more free then and sometime in july or august.

ello peeps. haha as of now we have a grand total of 17 ppl. and i hope the number of people who can make it will increase, which is actually. haha.

anyway these are some of the goodies that we shall be looking forward to!!!

for appetisers:

there will be potato salad and sausages. of course the course is not complete and will continue as sunday approaches. also, there will be curry puffs.

for main dish:

we have spaghetti with homemade meatballs, shepherd's pie, roast chicken. for now. sushi i dunno where to put, so i shall put it here.

for desserts:

we have brownies and ice cream, durian puffs, a log cake, and homemade chocolates.

Wah sey, we are so in for a treat and the menu just expands itself! bwahahhaa!!!
SO we have a grand total of TWELVE - 12 dishes for now. yummy!

and ya, i think the serving size can make it for around 10-12 ppl, given the huge variety of dishes we have, although the main dishes can afford to cover for about 13-15 ppl.

Final reminder for the attendance of the Christmas party. Though it was supposed to be the deadline last night, apparently not many people took that into account and emailed Yanmin on their availability. Let's be happy citizens and inform either me (Xinwei) or Yanmin ASAP by the 26th latest. Do kindly send us a msg or something even if you can't come, so we'll be able to wish the class there merry christmas on your behalf and have an easier life finalising the attendance without having to call half of the class personally.

Here's a big THANK YOU to those who replied by yesterday. However, you've still got the other half of the favour to complete for us. We'll like to know what dishes you'll be able to contribute to the merry little humble party of 06S6C. It need not be some gigantic, magnificent dish. It can something as simple as home-made potato salad or even something (that probably our dear elicia has to resort to. *laughs*) ordered from a supermarket or booth. But if you're ordering, you might have to do it soon. These orders are really useful, they even provide complicated dishes like sausages of all kinds, meat of all kinds etc. The only drawback is the deadline, that should end pretty soon for the orders since December is almost over. So, act fast!

We'll appreciate every bit of help and consideration offered.

Once again, contact us by 26th Dec. Other than Luyang and Kiahui who have already confirmed their attendance and dishes, we'll be expecting a reply from everyone else. :) Till then!

people who are attending, i think it will be advisable, if u are preparing food, to do so for about 10 ppl. regardless of the number of ppl attending, but portions for 10 ppl that range over a few dishes should be ok for everyone who attends. i predict about 15 ppl attending, since i only got mail from a few ppl, so i need ppl to email me like asap!

oh btw, luyang took sushi, kiahui took jelly etc, xinwei log cake, and me spaghetti with home made meatballs. so ya, the rest better act fast. no harm working together to bring together a mean feat of a dish. haha!

One week in NS

Dear all,

I am back for the Hari Raya Haji holidays. Just wanna update you all about my experiences in NS. For my personal thoughts and feelings, go to my blog. In this entry, I will be sharing with more of the logisitcs part of NS, that is, to complement what Audrey has posted.

Generally, Audrey's post is accurate. But there are a bit of errors here and there, probably because different batches, different companies have different standards/requirements.

Corrections to Audrey's post:

1. They do provide you toilet rolls. But you only get 2 rolls. I finish one within my first week already. So u know what to do.

2. As Audrey has mentioned, you are only given 2 grey PT singlets, 2 black shorts and 2 "brown admin", which is the brown army t-shirt. these are certainly NOT ENOUGH. go buy more. i suggest you own at least 4 to 5 sets. And army market HAS GOT STOCKS of the brown t-shirt. each shirt/shorts costs around $5-$6

3. Cup noodles and snacks not really allowed, though people have managed to smuggle them in. But in any case, you have no hot water, and no time to eat snacks. Also, for the first two weeks, you are given night snacks like paos, curry puffs, swiss rolls... etc, so there is realy no need to smuggle in like Famous Amos cookies or Kong Guan biscuits.

4. the waking up time varies. most of the time, you don't wake up at 0530. rather, you FALL IN at 0530, so which means u wake up at 0500. For Yankee company, you FALL IN at 0600, but unfortunately you guys won't be going to Yankee Company.

5. Having said that, you guys won't be going to Mohawk company either. The PTP (Physical Training Phase) batch (which is my batch) will not join you guys when January comes. You guys will form your own Companies. Hence, since Mohawk is already formed, you guys will not be entering there.

But Ninja company is not formed yet... =)

6. You won't get a chance to go to the canteen. Hardly. Unless your performance is good. So don't keep thinking about that roti john.

7. Pay for us is now $400. No longer $350. You will get your pay at the 10th of every month.

8. Get ready for water parades. the amount of water u need to drink EACH TIME is half the volume of the green army water bottle. After you have finished drinking, you need to tilt the water bottle so that it is horizontal to indicate that u have drank half the contents.

Other important things to note:

1. There is only a specific time for you to report sick. Urgent cases like broken limbs, deep cuts, fever, eye infection..etc can be reported 24/7. Non-urgent cases like flu, cough, sore limbs, sprain... etc will only be entertained from 9 to 5.

2. Training is already quite busy for the PTP batch, so much less to say for you guys, the Direct BMT batch. It's like 13 weeks of syllabus being taught within 9 weeks for you guys. So be prepared for VERY LITTLE time to shower, call home and even eat.

3. Passing Out Parade (POP) for all of us is on 12th March 2008.

4. Do train up yourself now. Do weights, run 5 KM, do 10 pull-ups everyday, whatever. Training for you guys will NOT BE PROGRESSIVE, unlike ours. You guys are expected to be fit already when u enlist, so you guys better don't slack too much now.

5. Be friends with your section mates (those people whom u sleep with in a bunk) You really need them. =) I am very fortunate to have very fun and friendly section mates.

6. Do be prepared for the excessive and liberal use of vulgarities like "chee-bye", "fuck you", "fucking hell", "fucking retard", "fucking chee-bye", "you don't fucking be " from your platoon commanders, platoon sergeants and sergeants. you need not respect them for that, but just get used to it.

7. Food there only has got quantity but no quality. Occasionally you get better food (take note: i mean "better" and not "good") like pasta, fried chicken, and ice-cream and brownie for dessert.

8. There are some chio and hot girls in Orion Company.

9. You will have at least 4 water parades each day, especially before and after each physically-demanding activity like strength training, morning physical training, footdrills...etc.

10. Get used to your supreriors astrocious standards of English. Some don't know that a basin is called a basin. Or some confused "subsequent" with "consequent". Or you will hear things like "You is..." So much for thier 'O'-Levels English Pass grade.

11. Your company/platton/section mates will most likely be JC students. About 5% are Poly, ITE, Dropouts or students who returned from overses education.

12. Try to learn how to sew. You are given a black sling bag which is of mediocre quality. It will be used to store your fully-filled (like filled to the brim) water bottle which can be too much for your bag to carry. The strap of your sling bag will soon tear and you just have to sew it. This is especially important as you guys have a confinement period of TWO STRAIGHT WEEKS, unlike me as have time to bring my bag home for my mum to sew it.

13. Bring lots of underwear so that you need not do so much laundry.

14. Don't bring too many pairs of your OWN white socks. You are not allowed to wear any white socks except for the SAF-issued ones.

15. You must do your own laundry by hand. No washing machines available for recruits like you and I.

16. Since you guys will have a packed training shcedule, and a two-week confinement period, and you have to do your own laundry by hand, thus it is EXCEPTIONALLY IMPORTANT that you guys bring extra PT shirts, brown admin, black shorts and underwear to avoid the need of laundry.

17. You are never clean in army, so learn to make do with a quick 3 minute shower (or less than that) and wear the same, unwashed shirts/pants/socks for 2 or 3 days. Please don't wear the same underwear for more than one day. That's just disgusting.

18. If you want, go buy:

garters,
boot laces,
black mirror,
black tape,
large tin of prickly heat powder (the Snake brand one that Audrey mentioned), lighter,
key lock and
range card

ALL FROM ARMY MARKET now so that when you first book out you need not go and buy, but can stay at home to rest. These should cost around $20.

Just tell the aunties/uncles manning the shops there these English names, they know their stuff.

19. I think MP3 is allowed. So if you want you can bring it to listen during free time.

I got this from my rj OGL. Seems kinda helpful for you guys enlisting into the army soon. I copied the relevant parts, hope it's of help to you people before you get the full story from heng. Take care! :)

For the army boys: Ok so you're probably enlisting soon so play hard before you go in. But do prepare before you go in. It'll really make life much easier for you. So you might want to make a trip down to army market.

Things to expect:When you go in, you'll get a 2 week confinement, so bring the necessary stuff like:
-extra underwear (boxers are not allowed)
-toiletries (they do provide you with a Gillette shaver, toothbrush and toothpaste but you have to use your own toilet roll)
-Snake brand powder (very useful)
-Wet wipes (for area cleaning or other purposes)
-Cheap sandals to wear around in bunk ($2 kind)
-Detergent (I recommend getting the liquid kind. much easier to handle put it into a bottle)
-extra black shorts (the brown shirts which you will most probably be wearing isn't available at beach road last i know)
-safety pins (rifle component. gets lost often as it's tiny so saves you an extra if you have spares)
-Cup noodles and snacks! (but check with your officers first)
i can't remember what else i needed but anyway.

They'll provide you with 5 sets of No 4 (the green normal ones), 2 sets of boots, 2 sets of shorts and t-shirts (admin they call it) and 2 PTattire.
Liquid shoe polish isn't allowed (just don't get caught though) but all you have to do is keep your boots black (might want to consider getting extra kiwi and brush)

You can get most of the stuff you need during the e-mart break which you may have (depending on your officers) but most likely you won't really have sufficient points to buy much yet (yea points they give you to spend so you don't have to pay by cash).
You wake up 5.30 everyday and sleep at 10.30
Get used to drinking lots of water. Water parades happen like ALL THE TIME in the army. Keeps you hydrated which is good.

The roti-john at the canteen is awesome (the malay one, there are 2 canteens) Go try it if you get the chance.Oh and yeah, you get $350 pay

Anyway you'll be sleeping in a 12 men bunk known as a section. You'll have an individual section instructor who's probably a sergeant. The discipline master is known as the sergeant major (he's the guy who gives you extras so you can't go home during the weekends) so don't piss him off. 4 sections/bunks on 1 floor form a platoon who's headedby a platoon commander (aka PC) who's an officer / 2LT. There will also be a platoon sergeant (higher ranking sergeant guy). You address officers as SIRS and specialists as SERGEANTS (they're quite picky about this). So 4 platoons eventually make a company who is under your officer in command (OC). (biggest boss there) You won't see much of your friends in other companies though sadly, much less the other school.

Some other things to note, there are 2 schools, school 1 and school 2.School 2 if you're in Mohawk or Ninja company, watch out, just try to survive. Mohawk is discipline freak and ninja is just crazy. If you're in Leopard, you're in the scholar company so good for you.

Oh and lastly but most importantly, you'll be assigned a buddy for the entire duration of your BMT life. Take care of him and get him to lookout for you as well. I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH. Life will be so much better if the 2 of you work together. Besides your rifle who will be your wife, he is the next most important person.

For the PSC scholars wannabes:
Ok for the guys applying for PSC, if you want a military or police scholarship, you need to be combat fit.
Finish BMT and get into OCS.
If you're in leopard scholar company, that's half a step there but even if you're not, fret not.
But the most important thing is to qualify into DELTA WING of OCS. And in there good luck to you (I had even more fun there than in BMT haha)
Every SAFOS/SPFOS SAFMS and SPFMS scholar has been for Delta wing,including all president scholars.
And yah, do work on your essays and interviews.
PSC likes UK, so do apply there. They don't seem to like only USA applicants.
Current affairs is extremely important. (They asked me about the Virginia Tech university killings on the day it was reported!)
Anyway eventually the interview will be at the national library where you sit in front of a panel of many senior people and let them interview you. Just be true to yourself =)

For the peeps applying for Med school:
Alright the format for getting in involves sending in your portfolio and stuff including an essay, your resume/CCA record and teachers' recommendation so do inform your tutors if you're applying (although there's no need to do so so early)
There will be a timed essay portion following which you will have to go through 2 interviews. 1 by teaching staff (more important) and another by doctors (more casual). If you do make it to the interview you will not be allowed to reapply though.

Medical current affairs is rather important (so do read up, they ask things like HOTA, know your health ministers and health policies stufflike that) and they also tend to ask you about what you wrote in your essay so come prepared to explain to them your views and opinions.Oh yah and expect standard questions like why do you want to be adoctor. You should already know this =P

They also value attachments. They want to see you know what you're getting into and you know the sacrifices it takes to become a good doctor. So do arrange for one. it'll be easier for the girls but the guys can arrange for attachments during your BMT break if you haven't gone for one before. Just write to the hospitals, now's a good time to do so actually.

weee, everyone disturbed as to how free u are after our wonderful chalet? dunno what to do with the time before u go to work, or before some of us go to ns? bah! so here goes...

there is an upcoming christmas party, venue is undecided. do note that it is tentative venue. also, the party will be in the form of a potluck, so we don't have to stick to the usual fare of pizza and fast food. SIAN!

below are the details for the potluck:

finger foods/ appetisers

i opened up this section to allow for time for people who might require the aid of microwave or whatsoever to heat up the food at the decided venue. so in this case, there will be time lag for the finger foods to set in! weee!!!

main dish

ok. in this section, it is preferable that no one does any dishes regarding beef and maybe mutton. and try not to go into too expensive seafood. ya all these are for cost considerations. chicken will be a good choice, and also pork. vegetables can also be a nice main dish, or maybe pasta of sorts. frittata anyone? lol.

dessert

desserts are kinda easy rite? u can venture into anything u like. wahahhaa, i dunno la, just jiayou and do ur best?

tips on doing a potluck

so here's how u can do it. haha, look for recipes in the library, i saw potluck recipes somewhere somehow. can also get ur family members to give some ideas. most importantly, more potluck, have to work in groups to pull off the dish for everyone to hmmm, eat. so do "register" for the type of dish that u want to undertake, aka one of the three above.

the party will be on the 29 or the 30 dec, depending on which day gathers a better turnout.
also, there will be the second most anticipated present exchange ritual. wahahaha, present should range from 10-15 bucks.

so let's summarize.

ok tmr is the chalet itself. please meet at pasir ris mrt station by 230 pm. if u are late then have to make ur own way inside. so as far as possible do be early. hmmm xinwei will be waiting for the latecomers though. so anyway do gather at the station and proceed on to the same bus stop we went to by 3pm, since the bus to aloha loyang has an extremely weird schedule. and the add to the chalet is garden bungalow 7, in aloha LOYANG. bwahahaha! ya miss chua will be meeting us there early, since she checking in with us, so please please please let there be a decent number of punctual people to be there to check in with her.

whoever has playings balls, or any other sorts of entertainment such as dvd players and dvds, xbox or ps2 please try as much as possible to bring. for now, ben and i bringing mahjong, but we welcome more sets haha. anyway volleyball ben also bringing and please bring torchlights. whoever has soccer ball can also bring, as well as frisbee i guess. i think i might get miss chua to bring twister mat. haha! and please bring many many packs of cards and cameras.

The interior of Attica is reminiscent of a bedroom. With its golden curtains, couches and chrome lighting, it’s hard not to associate the place with basically anything sexual. ( And you probably will not be too far from the truth.) It sets your inhibitions down, bringing you a whole different mindset of being jolly, friendly and just too receptive to others. No intimidating stone structures, no moody aura. Just a straight up provocative invitation. Further down, you will be exposed to the Courtyard. Set in a very Balinese style, complete with atap huts and a fountain, it’s where you want to enjoy your drinks while you rush off from the mad crowd. The open-air concept though means that you are subjected to the humidity. Well, if you’re not already hot, might as well define it in another way. Going through a velvet- decorated staircase, which by the way is really dark and has really steep steps, you will be introduced to Attica Too. In comparison, the place has a futuristic vibe to it. Almost trendy, it carries off the same interior designs of couches and mirrors. However, they have a big dance floor. Much bigger than their ground floored compatriots.

Music there is pretty solid too. Though the Djs are not as known as some of the Djs here, Titus of Attica, who spins on Wednesdays and Saturdays, injects back the old-skool hip hop feel into a pop-infused culture. Spinning tracks that date back to the early 80s, this is a much-needed salvation who are sick of hearing them rappers talking about their female counterparts in the most derogatory manner. We are not saying guns and drugs are better. But it feels odd to hear a 16 year old singing about his mojo and how all the ladies want him. On top of that, quite literally too, Attica Too provides house and progressive music for those who are more into the bass than the beats. Playing off against a kaleidoscope of colours, the feel there is more hard-core clubbing as opposed to Attica.

As mentioned, the crowd there can be quite the head-turner. Now, this is the part where we inject the disclaimer. We are not saying that everyone there will be beautiful. Naturally, that only happens when you’re either too lucky or have no sense of standards. But the odds of you bumping into the girl whose face is plastered at the back of your everyday SBS bus, is pretty high there. Models flock the place by the dozens. The socially-conscious media shakers rub shoulders there. The big wigs show their faces once in a while there too. When you’re either genetically blessed, socially up the ladder and/or rolling in the riches, you will give a damn about how you look. Of course, you get the normal crowd you get everywhere. As we mentioned, this is not utopia. But safe to say, if you’re out to look for your next date, you will not be disappointed. Look being the operative word here. Whether you score is entirely up to your charms.

However, it is also notorious for being the fishing pond of a certain group of local girls who are really skin-biased in their male companionships. A lot of expats make their way here so, you can put two and two together. On top of that, seeing a 45-year old British banker boogie to Snoop Dogg with a local girl half his age, can get a bit too funky for the eyes at times. Brace yourself for this fact as you are bound to see it sooner or later.

Drinks here however, are nothing great. They will not be a connoisseur’s dreams. But they’re good enough for the local clubbing industry. If you’re looking to get high, then maybe you might consider investing a bit more money. Or just order something really potent like the Long Island Tea. A sure-fire way to get you onto a whole different altitude. And you know what they say? After a few drinks, everyone looks good. ( If you’re beginning to doubt our judgement on good looks now, rest assured that we were not drinking on the job. Not that much anyways.)

In all fairness, with a name taken after a Greek Goddess, Attica can provide you with the fun you are looking for. There’s something arrestingly charismatic about this new joint that has yet to lose its lustre, and crowd at times. When you hit a club, chances are you want to let loose and not care. And nobody provides an equation quite as accurate as Attica. Sensual or just sexed up, Attica is a good alibi for letting go all the beliefs you had for a good chunk of your life.

Now let us interrupt this drama serial with a news update!

Class chalet is coming! It's from the 6-8 Dec, in case you forgot about it along with your A level stuff. Haha so it's time we start planning for it. Basically there's bbq food and activities to worry about.

1) BBQ food
Just for your info, we have around $110 for food. We should be buying the usual stuff: chicken wings, sausage, potatoes, otah, meat, marshmallows etc. I cant think of anything else. Please give suggestions!

Ben will settle the buying of bbq food, so the class will need to help marinate it! If i'm not wrong last year someone brought marinade from home. Haha so if that nice soul, whoever you are, can bring it again then it'll be great! If anyone else can bring more marinade it'll be good too.

And I remember yanyin saying she loves to massage chicken, so yanyin shall be put in charge of marinating the food! (I just realised i've nv heard yanyin utter a word on this blog :P)

2) Activities
We are thinking of having the BBQ on the first night and having night cycling on the second night. So we're left with the afternoon activities to think about.

Jiawei will be in charge of planning the night cycling route. So the rest of the class can think of what we can do in the afternoons and night if you cant go for night cycling. (eg, wild wild wet, play at the beach etc) :)

Umm thats about all. I'll keep you pple updated about where to meet and stuff like that. Oh yes, ms chua has kindly offered to sponsor our BBQ food! So MAYBE we can save some money there. Yup. Hope the class can participate actively in this by contributing and giving your suggestions!

Chemistry Post Prelim Revision

While we are at it let's just get all the admin stuffs over and done with.

Starting Oct 1 we will be ~~celebrating children's day~~ going through the chem specimen papers. I know that we don't have the materials yet. I will place the orders from the photocopy shop and distribute them probably on tuesday (monday if possible). Don't purchase them yourselves from the photocopy shop.

Financial-wise, I will see if Yan Zhi has available funds. If not, I will collect the money personally when I distribute.

Since Audi and LT3 will be doing different stuffs, I will get materials for both Audi and LT3 so we will have more stuffs to try out. If you don't wish to purchase all of them or already have some of them, please inform me one way or another.

hello everyone. the CIP stuffs will be given to everyone tmr in the form of photocopies. found out it was not feasible to type it all out, because everything in it is impt to everyone in class.

so basically what u shud look out for, are the ways to amend the corrections on ur cip record sheet in the mean time. also, source of proof to back up your cip hours.

note that the max number of hrs for all CIP activities excluding SL is 120 hrs.

hours for library services and flag day are capped at 12 hrs over the course of the 2 years.

hours awarded are also subjected to the approval of the CIP unit.

endorsement is important!

CCA leaders and SL project groups should also take note of what to do. instructions are clearly stated in the paper. yep, that's all. cya tmr!

i guess this doesn't come as random as i would expect of most inspirations for my posts. this is one of those few posts, which are non-announcement, from me. in a long long time.

i can still say that it dates back so long ago. it must be dated bahz. anyway, i was on the bus home from tuition, and i suddenly got this heartwrenching feeling. dunno why, but maybe because the recent events have incurred my memories and already, my longing for the class already. study break seems so scary altogether.

national day was the day when the bubble burst. a bubble of suspicions, and negative feelings. all these were undue worries, things that served to bring out the unity and harmony that has long resided in all of us. as i was searching through the photos, especially glimpsing through those that junquan sifted out, i noticed our class guys stoning at our old class bench. wow, those were the good old days, when the guys were so nice to leave the space to the girls, not that we don't now. it brought me back to the j1 days, to the beginning of j2, when A levels seemed to be something so far away. now...

national day, miss chua, our class... oh my gosh, this year is truly eventful and extreme. so many cca commitments, so many a times when we thought the class was of a history, that we were nothing but left a shell. wrong. we are the true green athenians, the lukewarm character. either we don't get hot, else we are unstoppable. just look at our FOS! gosh, it was truly remarkable and i really couldn't hold back my praises for the class, especially all the guys and the girls participated in our every little ways. it was truly touching, and i don't know how many a times, tears seemed to well up in my eyes. touch wood, i didn't get conjunctivitis because of that!

ok, back to the topic. national day this year. it made me realize just how charismatic our nation is. her birthday was the day when we bear testament to the infallible 6C spirit, the sexy and don't care what others think self righteous spirit. that's the way to go, we are who we are. all the dances, all the jumpings and laughters, sparks just flew all over the hall. all i saw was one whole 6C on national day eve, who was who? i didn't know at all.

this brings me to the next point. many a times, we would have felt that our contributions to the class are so varied. but it is this variety, which makes itself significant at different parts of this combined class journey which culminates into one success story. a story of love, of friendship, of inexplicable attachment. to me, the best contribution lies in the very presence of everyone. to share burdens, to relinquish in that class joke that brings a smile unwittingly. its for everyone of us, that everyone of us yearns to come to school, that class life is a life more than just a chore. unbelievable, but we have done it.

come what may, rain or shine. we are still 6C. our legacy lives on, we show our smiles, we show our spirit.

LOL. hello!

some announcements for graduation day. like what we've told the class earlier, there are a few things we need to settle by week 9 to be handed in to the grad day people.

1) graduation day powerpoint/movie for our class.

we'll need EVERYONE to bring whatever photos they have of the class to sch latest by friday. tml will be a good day too since Andrew Tan wont be coming for econs tml. maybe we can use that period to do the selection of suitable photos (preferably after breakfast in the morning =P) dont be embarrassed to bring whatever photos you have k? cos the photos that yanmin has collated might very likely not include everyone. :)

2) gift for ms chua

other than the prom night ticket that we're giving to ms chua, we will have to prepare something else to give to her on grad day. the class com has thought of some pretty good ideas but we'll need the class's suggestions and opinions too, esp on matters such as budget ($). LOL.

hmmm that's all for graduation day i think.

oooooo. just in case you need the reminder, rmb to sign and bring back the form for study leave by friday latest. that is unless you prefer to be stuck in school all the way till A's. LOL! :)

Dear all, I've uploaded the recent Block Test 2 papers for Econs and CLL from TPJC. Click on the following links to download the scripts. For the CLL paper, only Paper 2 is available.

Please take note that there is an hourly limit of 4.2MB of data that can be transferred from my site, i.e. within one hour, only 4.2MB of files can be downloaded. This means that you may not be able to download the papers sometimes if the data transfer exceeds the allowance. If that happens, please be patient and wait for the next hour.

I tried to make the papers password protected but I failed. If anyone knows how to do it, do tell me. I do not wish that people from other classes make use our resources without contributing, or our own classmates can download the papers so easily without contributing. =)

Dear all, I am serious about starting a revision schedule for the class. However, due to my restrained capabilities, I can only help out for Chemistry, Mathematics and Chinese Literature revision.

I will consolidate questions and post them onto the class blog every week for all of you to revise over the week. As far as possible, solutions will be provided for each question that I've posted.

I sincerely hope that I can see interaction from the people who make use of this service by sharing your solutions or post solutions to those question which I am unable to give you the solutions.

I hope that this is a two-way thing, only that can we maximise the benefits of this programme. I hope that all of would WOULD NOT BE SELFISH and enjoy the fruits of labour WITHOUT CONTRIBUTING. SHARE!!!

You won't get your 4As by saying that you want to get 4As, or by posting "get 4 As" on your wish list. I am creating this programme because I WANT TO GET MY 4As. And this is how you achieve it.

Of course, you are NOT OBLIGED to join the programme. This programme is strictly optional!

BUT, if you DO join, I expect to see full interaction from you. No one is allowed to 渔翁得利 by not contributing.

Kw = 1.0 X 10^-14 mol^2/dm^6 at 25 degrees Celcius

Calculate Ka for pure water at 25 degrees Celcius using the info given above. (In fact, I don't even need the value of Kw in my working... but there may be alternative ways... feel free to explore!)

wah sey, i never blog for so long at class blog. would really like to thank terence heng and lynette and all our bloggers for keeping the blog vibrant. thanks a lot!

ok this shall be an update of some important things.

firstly, and most importantly, our core module will fall on the 30th may. so for people who are still trying to plan schedules, ya leave this day free!

secondly onwards will be miscellaneous. this will be the cip for our class people who are going to clock up hours.
