The pot of gold
hey guys, the pot of gold is finally here. ya, no rainbow, but at least, pot of gold = shade of orange of our class tee!!! yes, the class tee has finally been finalised. hmmm, WTH i'm not doing any alliteration at all... gosh, poor vocabulary.

ok, with the help of yanyin, or should i say, with the help of me, the class tee has finally pulled through. as usual, vice ct like me does nothing. assuming a position of authority, i guess, makes me damn lazy... hmm, random comment, i thought i juz saw michael jackson on tv, if u get what i mean, but that guy really can sing.

my gosh...

ok back to my topic. as for the class tee, i am quite sure that it can be done next week. after finalisation from yanyin, who was basically deserting her gentle nature and hmm, growling and snarling all over the shop owner, we finally got the tee through. ya, thanks to her we can finally wear it for our fac camp! CLAPS!!! we got a sponsor and yay, that means we pay less!!! thanks SPONSOR!!! erm, if u like i might just upload the finalised design so that u all can have an idea what it is about... ya, so thanks again to everyone for making the tee go through!

kudos and look forward to a nice camp. i am so damn sure that our lives will never be the same again! have fun and enjoy!!!

ps: i can't upload the pics for some friggin reason... never mind, surprises are always nice coz they are not called jing XI for nothing.

YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH
YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH

This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!

It takes less than a minute. Work this out as you read ...

Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!

This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

***********************************

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1756 ....

If you haven't, add 1755.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).

The next two numbers are YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2006) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

A lesson to be learnt
I am writing this because I do not want you all to suffer the same mistake as I did today.

I was filming the Virtual Business Challenge today late into the evening. When I was buying milo from the vending machine at around 5pm, and concentrating very hard on the pouring speed of milo from the nozzle, a very gentle sound call out to me and said "诗雁(yan1),这么晚还没有回家啊?”

When I turned around, I saw a very familiar figure. Wearing a pink top and brown pants, with an almost alfro(how to spell?) hairstyle. But then it all happened too fast, and what came out of my mouth is,"oh, Auntie"

Man, I called our favourite Mdm Siew AUNTIE. I think she didn't hear that, but then this is a very good warning to all of you out there who has been calling her nicknames in private. Always practise greeting her the correct way, so that you won't blurt out rude nouns during reflex actions like this one.

Fellow 6Cers, please be reminded that we have LeaP this Saturday. The course is Public Speaking at A309 from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

As for the travelling declaration form, either pass it to me or just put it into our class pigeon hole. Deadline is tomorrow, Friday. Please also remind people around you.

Bowling
Bowling module was fun.

That is, when you score above 100 points.

Obtaining a shitty score of 75 would only leave you dejected and desolated.

On the second and the last day, I topped my group twice with 108 points and 118 points respectively.

That's more like it.

Off to sign language module!

Don't Expose Ourselves!
You wouldn't understand how they feel because you belong to the "popular group"

-- Yu Tse, on how I have no clue about the class divide

Perhaps he's right.

I am ignorant about everything.

But what I think is that we shouldn't wash our dirty linen in public? It's always best to keep our dirty laundry unseen by others lest we give others a chance to hurt us.

Everything should be dealth with subtlely.

Speaking your mind isn't always the best option. Sometimes, appeasement works and this is more "politically correct". I believe that we should not flame each other, over cyberspace or face-to-face, instead we ought to pull your "taget" aside and try to talk to that person and see if there's anything that can be done.

Shall we be more pacific?

Getting our priorities right...
I do agree that the class spirit is sorely lacking, and I don't deny that I am guilty of not mixing more with the others. However, I really don't see the point. Reasons are as follows...

Although I know that being late seems to have become a sub-culture of HCI, there is no reason for us to be late just because we know that others will be late as well. Being late is wrong in the first place, so there really is no meaning is following the culture. If anything, we should be the ones setting the trend and being punctual. For those who disagree with me, maybe you don't mind waiting for others, but can you put yourself in the shoes of others? Just because you don't mind waiting for others doesn't mean others don't mind waiting for you. The same applies for the pon-ing of lessons.

Which brings me to my main point...What is the friggin point of having class spirit if what it entails is the mass pon-ing of lessons and being late together? I'm no saint myself. In fact, I have countless flaws and to list them one by one would take aeons to say the least. But at least I do what I can to be the best that I can and to put on my best behaviour.

What I say usually don't endear me to others, but I really don't care, because I simply speak my mind---no nonsense. As students, we are in school basically to study and be punctual in attending lessons; As 06S6C, we are to have fun together; As a person, we are to act by our personal code of conduct...

The main issue is our priorities...My priorities are obviously different from others---it is only natural. I don't talk when I don't see the point. I don't post when I don't see the point. Similarly, I don't mix with others if there's reason for me to see others as a bad influence. My personal behaviour has already seriously fallen short of my own expectations, so please forgive me for not bonding with the class if the situation of discipline does not improve...

That's all...

ppl!!! haha, so much talking!!!

ya, as vice ct, i think i damn slack leh! shiyan doing most of the work, and i feel kinda guilty, koping so many pieces of forms to draw. hee2, lucky shiyan let me do so!!! yay thanks!

ok, since the ct rep is supposed to kinda manage class discipline, i think i shall be the siao lang (crazy person). ok la, less crapping. i think i shall be more active in terms of the part on the class merchandises, or even any class activities. ya, regarding merchandises, the main aim is to complete the jacket by june hols. hmm, obvious why lor! anyway, merchandises i think lynette volunteered. more ppl come forth please?

anyway, regarding the problem of class unity, i would like to appeal to everyone to join the class yahoo groups. that is still quite minor. instead of embarking on class outings STRAIGHTAWAY, i would like to exercise my authority as vice ct rep and call a class meeting. the meeting will be at 1 on wednesday, the sabbaticals week. attendance is compulsory, and it is a class meeting. no teachers will be called forth to do anything, which is totally redundant. ok, anyway, the venue to be decided later.

once again, class meeting at 1, on wednesday, 24 may! attendance is compulsory, except for those who ARE overseas by then. agenda will be disclosed during the meeting itself. be present, or the consequences will be dire. i stress, this time i am serious, not joking at all...

yep. thats all...

yaya i agree
yep, i agree with Xinwei. we don't ask for a total makeover over the night, but at least put in gradual effort. ya, feel abit guilty, cos' i think i'm the person who didn't put in effort to bond with the class. I'm going to start trying now, hope everyone else do the same ok?
and given the experience from the previous indemnity forms and parents' reply slips, I wish the class can show more cooperation. It took us almost a week after deadline to gather the indemnity forms. plus, there are some ponning-lessons phenomenon happening. Can the class be guai and try not to receive complaints from subject teachers anymore? I mean, I think everyone has the responsibility to attend lessons as what a student should do, and as friends, don't encourage friends to pon lessons. cos' not only is it a bad image for the person who ponned, it is also a bad reputation for the class as a whole. in addition, try to be punctual for all lessons.
I am not trying to have a disciplinary talk over here, but these are some issues that I think as a CT rep, I should feedback to the class, and as a class, we should all work upon.

Bo Chap (spelling?)
After reading Xin Wei's post, I suddenly have the urge to say something, even though it is past my bedtime already..

Whenever someone approach you to attend an event, what is your first response?

I think that 90% of the people would ask "Who else is going?" instead of answering "Yes" or "No". The second response would usually end up with "duno" or "see first" because your friends are not going.

That is one of the reason for the poor participation of events/performances/activites.

No one wants to attend something alone, or pairs or in small groups. When there are more people going, taking for example the band concert, there will be more fun. Those who were at the concert should know what jia wei shouted during that time. It is such things that make the fun.

The problem now lies here: no one knows whether others is going, then everyone would end up not going, because NO ONE wants to go alone.

Same situation applies to class outing.

Class outing is meaningless if we don't have a decent number of people going. We understand that some have their own things to do, their own commitments, but class outing is a class thing. We don't call it a class outing anymore if less than 10 people turn up. It becomes just an ordinary outing with friends. More bonding between friends.. and it actually worsen the unity of the class - the formation of cliques.

I have nothing personal against cliques. In fact, everyone has their own friends that they feel more comfortable with. Cliques are fine as long as they are not exclusive. However, we must not only stick around with friends whom we are familiar with, talk more to your classmates. You may complain that HOMEWORK is the only topic in common, because that is what ALL OF US do. If we go out together as a class, attend events, I am sure there are lots of things we can share with each other.

Sounds like a vicious cycle eh?

I may not have the right to tell everyone about this. I myself is not a very active person in the class as well. Yet, Xin Wei has given all of us the wake up call, the call for unity, cooperation. This should not be neglected and everyone has a part to play in promoting a better class spirit.

With this I thank Yan Min for actively trying to bond the class. He is the only person I can think of that is doing a part to get the class spirit. But looks like we have failed him...

Look Here!
hey.

it's supposed to be my first blog entry on the class blog but sadly, it probably wont be a pretty one. i know i'm not the class CT rep or councillor or any one that might seem more appropriate to raise this topic. but as a concerned classmate, i hope that we can put more attention and focus to my following point.

well, apparently, there seems to be a rather terrible problem with our class spirit. we all SEEM to know it but it doesnt look like it's going to get better anytime soon. however, if we want to improve as a class, i guess there is a need for us to be honest in order to solve the problem.

personally, i think the class isnt bonded. i'm not saying that it's anyone's fault but at the same time, anyone could have made a difference to the whole situation. every effort counts. this line sounds so cliche but i REALLY mean it.

when i talk about class spirit, i'm talking about the willingness of each and every member of the class in supporting and participating in events such as class outings, class discussions and even going down to watch our classmates' performances and competitions.

some of us might think that bcos the whole class does not take the same subject combination, it is natural that we do not really bond and become as close as other classes that only take one subject combination. half the class takes CLL and the other half takes Physics. so we might therefore lose time that might have been spent more constructively for class bonding. frankly, i doubt that would be a good excuse for us. what we really need is quality time, not quantity.

of course, our class isnt THAT bad afterall. at least we know everyone in our class, we wont have to walk down the corridor and not even realise that the person who just walked past you is actually your classmate. but is that sufficient? how many of us actually went out to know MORE about another classmate's character and thoughts?

haha. and maybe we can also attempt to talk more often to one another, especially to those that we dont often chat with. and when i say "talk", i hope the topic wont ALWAYS and ONLY revolve around HOMEWORK. doink. -.- life is beautiful and it is definitely not just made up of academic results.

is this how we are going to spend our next one and a half year?

if i was given a choice, i dont want it to be like that. it's ugly. it's just like how our school has problems getting a reasonable number of students to go down to toa payoh sports hall to support our own teams in their finals. it's just like how we have problems getting enough people to go down to support our classmates in their arts fest concert. it's just like how there might only be a handful of us who went down to support the band and strings concert.

what do we have to say for ourselves? that we just cant make time for such events? or that there just never seem to be enough time for everything? or do other more "important" things always seem to clash with these less signifcant events? or is it merely us who cldnt be bothered with such silly support that doesnt seem necessaray?

in short, our class spirit is in need of more improvements. HUGE ones.

when we have our performances, we expect people to go down and watch. when we have duties to carry out, we expect our classmates to co-operate. when we have difficult games to play against strong rivals, we expect our classmates to be there and lend us the support. but we tend to forget that we are also expected to return that presence, that co-operation, that support. sometimes, we get too absorbed in our own life that we forget about others too.

and this could only be remedied as a class. you cannot always let the same few people go down to support, and it is WEIRD if only 2-3 people go down to watch only. so what if you dont know how to appreciate the sports/games/event? i dont learn music but i still go down to watch the band concert. am i then supposed to feel out of place? i dont like to cheer, does that mean i can just pon the whole sports meet and go for late breakfast at KAP instead?

so, let's do our best and be united! show people our pride in being a member of class 06S6C! it has to be a class effort!

Our Aim (or at least my aim for the class):
  • everyone TRY to go for at least TWO events (sports/performing arts/others) to support the class or the school.
  • ATTEMPT to participate in most class outings. (at least be there once or twice lar.)
  • put in the BEST effort to at least talk to everyone in the class at least once in TWo weeks. (that's not TOO difficult rite?)

let's try to reach these aims by the end of year 2006 k? :) i believe we can do it.

Remember to submit your indemnity forms for both sabbaticals and outdoor leadership camp tomorrow. Tomorrow is the final deadline, or else......(*evil grin)

And for future birthday celebrations, please don't throw cream around and dirty the canteen. It's both a waste of food and a hindrance to society by dirtying the place. That's not very nice.

resurrection
today really marks new milestones in my life. in fact, it is the first time that i ever ponned lessons for so long in my life. it is the first and i hope the only time. ya, today we played squash for our pe. it was so damn fun and i was so glad that the others actually insisted on it. haha, first time man! we played squash and got the hang of it initially. audrey and i played one on one after terence left. wah, was sweating like mad, coz we were like running here and there. then in came perverse jiawei and poor junquan. haha. it was damn funny, and we played until we for"went" our recess. i had no reason to quit the game, coz it was damn fun. the only regret, which cannot be called a regret was that i got a nasty blister which broke. so out gushed the blood and i left my mark in the squash court. haha, it was quite gross...

after which, the only interesting thing that happened was about getting a cake for yanyin. it was actually a substitute for her present, which we didn't get. so we went to kap during the 1 hour break. we were late and eventually we chose a coffee cake. argh, we bribed ms tan with apple pie and coke. haha, it was damn funny coz she almost blasted my eardrums open when we went in. pity she didn't join us, coz she had to give consultation to her student. haiz, anyway, yanyin took a LONG time to get to the canteen. so we waited and waited and finally she came. yep, we went to canteen to celebrate, and luckily we decided not to smash her face with whipped cream. so what she did was to smash the serviette with the whipped cream onto jiawei's ass. oopz. jiawei changed his clothes after falling for the exothermic reaction blitz. anyway, yanyin's "promiscuous" action unleashed the beast in jiawei. yep, not without me smashing the cream into the face. ooo that really did it. he was chasing me all over the canteen and thrashing cream onto my back. argh we messed up the whole canteen and everyone were having a hell of a good time looking at us play.

i implicated a few ppl, namely lanfang and simin and fandi. as for yuyin, it was totally random and she was like whacking me all the way, haha! tried to smear some cream onto lynette and her first reaction was to SCREAM! argh! there goes my ears. ouch! wah, can't imagine that she usually is a "quiet" little kittie. hah! in the end, the one who got most messy was lynette. yes, phay sprayed cream all over her and she looked exactly like she came out of snow city! siobhan got smeared cake on her for no reason, while she was having her lunch. haha, me and terence attacked left and right cheek simultaneously. she was so damn pissed and chased phay all over the canteen. u can never imagine how fast she ran. as for yangsai, haha, she got attacked by me and lucky she resigned to fate! heng ah! in the end, with cake dangling from my shirt and chilli sauce licking my back, and the mingling of sweat omg! ya, i shocked xiaminah and wenchi and wang wan who thought i really had the remnants still on my sinful hands. haha. anyway, i tried to attack wayqi and erherm. haha, someone came to the rescue and the others are quite self explanatory. haha.

in the end, i smelled like vomit. eww so i had to buy a new pe shirt and spray zillion tons of deodorant. in the end i only realized my hair was the sole culprit... haiz, anyway arts fest sucked and i didn't really care. the only embarrassment was to hope no one smelled me on the bus, which came impossible. big nostrils, pungent smell...

happy birthday to all the may babies! yay!

Bananas must be the reason why monkeys are happy all the time!
Bananas... This is very interesting.
After Reading THIS, you'll NEVER look at a banana in the same way again -
Bananas. Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.
But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of haemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it
amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) : Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.
Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine, "eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

Random Thoughts
1. Have you noticed since everyone has a camcorder these days no one
talks about seeing UFOs like they used to.

2. According to a recent survey, men say the first thing they notice
about a woman are their eyes. And women say the first thing they
notice about men is they're a bunch of liars.

3. All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention
to criticism.

4. In the '60s people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is
weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

5. There is a theory that states that if ever anybody discovers exactly
what the universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly
disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and
inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has
already happened.

6. How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a
whole box to start a campfire?

7. Doctors can be frustrating. You wait a month-and-a-half for an
appointment, and he says, "I wish you'd come to me sooner."

Gay Flight Attendant
The plane's cabin was being served by an obviously gay flight
attendant who was just as obviously enjoying himself. He came swishing
down the aisle and announced to the passengers, "Captain Marvey has
asked me to announce that he'll be landing this big, scary plane
shortly, lovely people, so if you could just put up your trays, that
would be super."

On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed that a woman hadn't moved a
muscle.

"Perhaps you didn't hear me over those big brute engines. I asked you
to raise your trazy-poo so the main man can pitty-pat us down on the
ground."

She calmly turned her head and said, "In my country, I am called a
princess. I take orders from no one."

Without missing a beat, the flight attendant replied, "Well,
sweet-cheeks, in my country, I'm called a queen, so I outrank you. Put
the tray up, now."

trapped
omg, the day has really come. nbday. no blog day! omg, yes, i am repeating this once again. has the rain really doused our enthusiasm? where is the former glory of the 6C? where is the spirit, where is the "move it-move it" spirit?

haiz, the more i want to blog, the more i seem to think that i cannot come up with anything witty. well, for improvements, or even for some progress, i have finally come up with a design for the class jacket, the only thing being that it is still not scanned into the computer as yet.

with the coming of music week, and the successful finale-s of several music concerts, namely guitar, strings and harmonica, more is to come. yes, the splendour of performing on the stage, to relish in the limelight (not that the light is really green), it is all too wonderful to describe. today marks the commencement of the band concert, though i was quite sad not a lot of ppl went for my strings. nvm! as long as the class goes for concerts TOGETHER, it will be the best.

argh, my brain is seriously depleting. the refrigerants inmy brain are slowly escaping. omg. well, to save the blog from becoming just merely an announcement blog, or a referral link, i guess i shall cough out more stuffs. argh poor throat.

anyway, speaking of weird stuffs, girls in our class are kinda addicted to this tiny snack called fo shou guo. haha, every day requires two bottles. what the heck. ya, we eat that much, and it is so much more economical than mentos limited edition. haha, and it is reputed to be soothing to the throat.

the only pertinent thing that is left, is perhaps the planning of a class trip. where are we going? where do we want to go? and who is going to plan it? had a poll but not a lot of ppl polling. haiz, really wish the class will be as enthu as before... will a class outing do it? terence phay, please don't forget to compose the class song once u are done with arts fest and ur band performance capricio. other stuffs coming might be a class wrist band, which i am not sure. class dance anyone? we can remember to do our "move it-move it" cheer! make it known to all in the class, make sure we perform it well during MAF! haha, how difficult can that be?!
meanwhile, get enthu, and hopefully win more vouchers for our class outing. mwahaha talking calk.
